Promotional project completed while I attended Design West. The workshop was conducted by Artur Rebelo from R2 Design and Isidro Ferrer.
The brief tasked us to design a poster for a business without knowing the purpose of the building all the info we got was the architect's description of the building:
On the first floor, there is an archive and a library, with two terraces angled at 45 degrees between each other. The terrace on the right overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and the other terrace overlooks a mountain range.
From the architect's description, I concluded that the building was a theater. I went forth illustrating the mountain range using the medium of brush and Indian ink to represent the flow of the ocean, in turn, joining the two terrace views. I illustrated three different variations of mountain ranges and then without allowing the ink to dry I closed my notebook to create altered copies, to leave the final outcome of the illustration up in the air. Tieing back to the original state of mind of the reader at the start of the brief not knowing the function but knowing the form/structure/architecture.
The content of the text reveals the function of the building but the two columns of text (which both contain the same information) are partially covered up to incourage full examination.
The poster was printed using riso printing from help from the guys at Studio OR. I chose to use riso print for its imperfect printing finish.
